From the very outset, German artist Barbara Probst has devoted her research to the analysis of the mechanisms of the photographic medium and to the questioning of its basic elements: from light, through film grain, all the way to the roles of the photographer and the viewer, via the categories of subject and object. The multiplication of points of view in the act of representing an event is the common thread of Exposure series, to which the work entered in collection belongs. Composed of two or more photographs, produced in the studio or outdoors, combining carefully controlled plans with the randomness of the street, shot using colour or black-and-white films at different heights and from different perspectives, the “exposures” create diverse images, encompassing all of the possible fields of photography – from amateur to fashion, from documentary to publicity – and definitively undermining the very concept of photographic truth.
