Mixing found and fabricated elements, display furniture and custom-made devices, Arens creates installations that lead the viewers to ask questions about the nature of what they are looking at and its function. An emblematic example is the 2013 Internet Centre & Habesha Grocery installation, which is the reconstruction in an artistic context of an internet centre, which actually existed in the London borough of Tottenham until 2013. While on the one hand, the museumification of the internet centre seems to make us reflect on the obsolescence of technology, on the other hand reminds us that, due to the technology gap, these IT centres still constitute the only way for a large section of the planet’s population to access telecommunications.
