Viewing the photography as a technique that forms an integral part of daily life, Lulay has explored its technological evolution and the influence that, it has had over time on social behaviour and mechanisms of perception. Perfectly aware of the overproduction of images that is a feature of our time, only rarely does the artist produce new photographs: she makes use for the most part of found images, given or purchased, which she then processes using a variety of techniques ranging from cropping to embroidery, from installation to collage. As many of Lulay’s works, even the Mindscapes and the Zeitreisende series are made using found photographs and digital images manipulated by the artist. The result, states Lulay “are portraits that do not depict identifiable individuals any longer. Rather, they raise questions about the materiality and the circulation of private photographs.”
