An artist and writer, Andenæs structures his research as an analysis of the verbal and visual languages and of the relationship that binds them together. His minimalist photographs are always accompanied by titles that are provocatively tautological or that, on the contrary, contradict what is apparently being said by the images. It is, then, representation itself that is thrown into question in his works, and with it the possibility of photography to contribute to the construction of the identity. Even in the case of personal subject matter, such as the embrace between his parents, Andenæs’s works is characterized by neutral arrangement and exposes the very fact that any attempt to reproduce reality is anything but objective: every representation implies an inevitable disconnect between appearance and reality.
