Renato Leotta was born in 1982 in Turin where he lives and works. After his degree for the three-year course in photography at the Istituto Europeo di Design, Turin, in the autumn of 2008 he took part in a workshop at the Fondazione Spinola Banna, Poirino, in the province of Turin. His work explores the boundaries and limits of images’ two-dimensionality and in order to do so he makes use of many expressive means, ranging from traditional photography to video, painting, and the recuperation of archive materials: different elements that find their meeting place in his study of spatial installations. In
accord with this continual experimentation with the various means of visual imagery, he also produces
fanzines and artists’ books, amongst which Germinal and Re/View, both published in 2009.
His works have been seen in various shows, amongst which mention should be made of the end of course exhibition at the Fondazione Spinola Banna, Poirino, and Video.it 07, Careof, Milan, Accademia Albertina, Turin and the Teatro Bellini, Catania, 2008; Da Guarene all’Etna, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Guarene d’Alba in the editions held in 2006 and in 2009; Germinal, GumStudio, Carrara, Il raccolto d’autunno è stato abbondante, Viafarini–DOCVA– Careof, Milan, 2009; Non totalmente immemori, né completamente nudi, Galleria Civica, Monfalcone and NYPh10, DUMBO Art Center, New York, 2010.
Since 2008 he has added to his artistic activity that of an experimental curator through the CRIPTA747 project based in Turin.
