Operating in the field of landscape observation, Serena Clessi’s work focuses on the relationship between reality and representation, highlighting the media component that characterises many contemporary loci. The images that make up the Metaluoghi project were shot in various European countries, in tourist resorts or in natural settings. Real landscapes, with strongly evocative connotations, which in the representation process suddenly become surreal, artificial, almost
as if they were stage sceneries of themselves, constructed especially to stimulate the imagination. Idyllic places, at times fairytalelike, while others are perturbing, shedding all sense of geographical localisation and laying out the narrative basis for countless stories, as many as the imagination of the onlooker may come up with.
