Reporter for thirty years, he works for the daily La Repubblica where he writes about culture, society and politics. He is interested in history and culture of photography and image, and he wrote several books and essays, among which: “La famiglia fotogenica” for Annali della Storia d’Italia (Einaudi, 2004); “Un’autentica bugia. La fotografia, il falso, il vero” (Contrasto, 2009); “Donne di questo mondo” with Uliano Lucas (Diabasis 2003); “Lo specchio d’inchiostro” with Ghigo Roli (Artioli, 1999); “Italiani a tavola” with Uliano Lucas and Guido Vergani (Mazzotta, 2003).
He created and manages the image-culture blog Fotocrazia on the website repubblica.it. He is member of scientific committee of Cifa (Centro Italiano per la Fotografia d’Autore) in Bibbiena.
