PRIMA BOZZA. GUIDA BREVE DELL’EMILIA ROMAGNA (2016)
I create geoiconographies, using for each place a different way of describing and telling. Here I portray Emilia Romagna by a page proof because in my opinion what editors do is similar to the region. The editorial staff assembles basic units (images and texts) to produce complex objects (books). It tries, it corrects, it starts again. Minimal situations are suitable to Emilia Romagna too, because here everything is measured and simplified, starting from beauty. But thanks to this peculiarity Emilia Romagna can take free and reversible forms adapting to each one. In Rimini and in Bologna everything is possible. It is the same in a publishing house, when the staff works on a page proof.
V STILE. STILE DELLE SUGGESTIONI (2017)
The ruderal plants grown close to the exterior wall of a factory in Modena remind me the Roman wall paintings classified by the four Pompeian styles and also some Eastern iconographic traditions. Only the suggestion can make similar connections. The thin plants call to mind the paintings portraying gardens and landscapes survived in Rome and Pompeii, while the luxuriant plants full of erotic charge are reminiscents of Japanese prints. They remind in particular the Japanese overflowing with flowers, waves and cloths, and the indented contours of shrubs and trees on steep slopes. The Persian parádeisos – a fenced palatine garden used for hunting – was full of life too. The Islamic garden derives from it. Even if it is a metaphor of paradise, the Islamic garden is bound up with sensuality and the earthly pleasures. On the miniatures where it is depicted, the abundance of water and the vegetable variety are portrayed with manic precision, that generates harmony and again sensuality.
